We Bring the Production to Your School…With funding for the arts dwindling, we wanted all children to experience the thrill of being in the spotlight so, in the spring of 2013 Spotlight Children's Theater was born. Our mission gives students in all schools, even those that don't have the resources or funding, the opportunity to perform in a school musical production. We bring everything you need for a full production and all you have to provide are the students! This 6-8 week process starts with open auditions and culminates into 4 or more spectacular performances. There is no limit on the number of students that participate.
When children perform in a “Spotlight” show, they gain self esteem, demonstrate creativity and imagination, spend fewer hours on screens, are better able to complete a task from start to finish, and learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and compromise as they work together to put on a successful show.
With your students in the spotlight!
We provide everything - scripts, costumes, set, sound equipment, scenery and music. Production length is 6-8 weeks from first rehearsal to performance. You provide, students, volunteers, rehearsal and performance space.

Auditions and Casting:
Everyone that wants to be in the production is welcome. In most cases, we invite children in the 3rd-6th or 4th-6th grades to participate in the production. Even though we have auditions, everyone that wants to, is part of the show! Auditions are not necessary, but only those who audition will be considered for lead roles.
Participants will get to perform 2 or more times per cast.
All casting will be done by Spotlight Children’s Theater.
All productions are double cast.
Volunteers:
Volunteers are important to the success of the production. We ask parents to provide 6 volunteer hours. (6 hours for the first child and 2 hours for each additional child.) If we don’t get enough volunteers for the show, we will modify the show accordingly.
Concessions:
Concessions can be done by the school, or PTA to raise money. If concessions are not done by the school or PTA, Spotlight reserves the right to sell concessions.
Tickets:
There will also be a minimal charge for tickets that will go to Spotlight Children’s Theater. Ticket prices will be $6 (subject to change depending on the show).
Performance Venue:
For the musical to enhance the community we recommend that the performance be at the school, or a school close by. If the school does not have a stage, then accommodations can be made.
Performances:
There will be 2-3 performances per cast depending on the number of participants.

One of the questions that we get most often is, "Why the registration fee for students?". This is a great question. Productions are very costly which is why many schools don't have their own programs. The registration fee helps to offset the expense of a production. Namely, costumes, set, sound, royalties, staffing, etc. Tickets, sales and registration fees only fund about 75% of the production cost. The rest is generously donated by parents, community and private donors.
At Spotlight we have two guiding principles:
1. Every child deserves a chance to shine.
Because every child deserves a chance to shine, we plan each of our shows around giving all participants the most opportunities to grow their talents and shine for the audience. This means double-casting our shows to offer more children speaking parts, and including the ensemble in as many numbers as possible. We want all students to have a good experience.
2. For children to be proud of their performance, we need to provide a quality show.
Most people are amazed when they see their first Spotlight show. This is not your typical youth production. The level of costumes, sound equipment, scenery, and attention to detail make for a fabulous show. The cast works really hard. We want them to be proud to invite their family and friends to their show.
